Why your 2026 goals are probably just wishes

Boardroom Pressure and Empty Wishes
I remember sitting in the boardroom at Scorpion during our early scale days. Our Founder would walk in and announce that we were going to grow by 40% that quarter.
On the surface, I'd nod and start planning.
But later that night, I'd be staring at the ceiling, doubting every decision and feeling the weight of that responsibility.
At the time, those 40% growth targets weren't plans.
They were wishes.
We had no systems in place to make those outcomes inevitable; we were just "grinding" and hoping the scoreboard would magically change.
I learned the hard way that you cannot scale an agency on heroics alone.
From $20M to $200M
We eventually stopped making wishes and started building systems.
By shifting from a generalist trap to a systematic, verticalized approach, we didn't just "hope" for growth.
The Result: We scaled Scorpion from $20M to over $200M in just over six years.
The Driver: We replaced founder-only hero efforts with predictable systems that made growth boring and reliable. For example, we implemented a weekly pipeline review that caught deal stalls 30 days earlier.
The Series A: This systematic approach helped us raise a $100M Series A round because the revenue wasn't a fluke; it was a probability.
The Path to Probability
To move your 2026 outcomes from "maybe" to "inevitable," you need to put your goals through these three filters:
1. Is it Possible?
This is the baseline. Growing your agency by 20% is possible. Me joining the NBA is not (I’m an old shorty). If the goal isn't in the realm of reality, stop wasting your energy.
2. Is it Plausible?
A goal is plausible only if you have a strategy to support it. If you want to acquire another agency to accelerate growth, do you have an investment thesis? Without a "how," your goal is just a high-stakes dream.
3. Is it Probable?
This is where I failed for years, and where I see most founders getting stuck. For a goal to be probable, you must have systems and daily habits in place.
This is where I lean on James Clear's insight: "You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems."
If you want to escape founder-led sales, your system shouldn't be "I'll try harder this week."
It should be something like a Gift-Based Outbound system, the methodology I developed at Scorpion, that lands 10–20 personalized gifts to VIP prospects every day, regardless of how you "feel" that morning.
The system runs whether you're inspired or exhausted.
I Spent Too Long Wishing. Now I Only Build Systems.
The difference between a $2M agency and a $10M agency isn't more talent or longer hours. It's the shift from hoping your way to growth to systematizing your way there. I wasted three years on hope. The systems I'm talking about? They're not sexy. But they're what got me from staring at ceilings to sleeping through the night.
Consumed & Created
Consumed: Holdco Guide by Peter Kang. I’ve been diving deep into Peter’s work on Hold Co structures. It’s been instrumental in helping me refine our M&A Growth Roadmap.
Created: A new home base for Corey Quinn, Inc. I finally pulled the trigger on a new website. It’s not just a facelift; it’s a repositioning of the business from Coaching to Advisory. As we scale founder-led agencies toward acquisition, I needed a digital presence that matched that Strategic Boardroom Advisor energy.
A hat tip to Jay Owen with Business Builders for creating the site. 🙏

P.S. Three ways I can help you make the shift to system-led:
Gift-Based Outbound Program: The exact system that helped us break out of referral-dependence at Scorpion. Let’s build it for your agency.
1:1 Advisory: Work directly with me to audit your current systems and design the ones that will make your growth inevitable.
