Why your "perfect" pitch is being ignored

Two discovery calls. Same prospect problem. Different outcome.

    Conversation 1: Tuesday morning

Founder: "What are you looking for?"
    Prospect: "I need more leads."
Founder: "Great, we specialize in SEO and paid acquisition."
Prospect: "Okay... what does that look like?"

    [20 minutes of capability showcase]

Prospect: "Let me think about it."

    Ghosted by Friday.

    Conversation 2: Thursday afternoon

Founder: "What are you looking for?"
    Prospect: "I need more leads."
Founder: "Got it. What does that actually get you?"
Prospect: "Probably another $100K in monthly revenue."

Founder: "Nice. What does that do for you?"

Prospect: (pause) "Honestly? I could stop working until 9 PM every night. Pick my kids up from school at 2 instead of being chained to my desk trying to hit payroll."

Founder: "Let's build a plan to make that happen."

    Signed a 12-month contract. $187K.

    What just happened?

That second conversation isn't about being "nice" or asking better questions. It's about knowing which answer to dig on and which to let pass.

Most founders hear "I need more leads" and either take it at face value or ask a random follow-up, hoping something sticks.

The founder who closed that $187K deal knew exactly where to push because he wasn't winging it. He was running a system he'd executed 47 times before with the same type of prospect.

When you're on a sales call, you're not thinking about methodology. You're thinking about not screwing up. That's why most founders can't train their teams to replicate what they do naturally. It's not documented. It's not repeatable. It's heroics.

The agencies that escape the Founder Bottleneck don't have better salespeople. They have better choreography.

    What I'm working on:

I'm launching a cohort for agency founders who are tired of improvisation-based sales. The goal is simple: systematize your discovery process so it works without you on every call.

Not theory. Not generic frameworks. The actual choreography: the questions, the sequence, the pattern recognition that tells you when to push and when to move on.

If you're interested in being part of the group, just hit reply and let me know.

    • Re-reading: Be Useful by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Great book for the new year. It's helping me refocus on what I'm building in my business and life. Arny's story is compelling—he overcame the odds and changed the world.

    • Published: YouTube video. This is a coaching call with Carson, who runs a $500K agency serving fence and deck contractors. He's looking to transition toward relationship-driven growth strategies. I enjoyed our chat and thought you might get some value from it.
