3 Questions That Could Completely Transform Your Agency

Want to scale smarter? These 3 questions help agency owners target ideal clients, deliver standout outreach, and specialize for long-term growth.
I've been thinking a lot about the challenges agency owners face, and I wanted to share three questions that might spark some useful reflection:
Question #1: What percentage of your ideal clients are in the "Zone of Indifference" right now?
These are prospects not actively looking for an agency, but not completely satisfied with their current solution either. How might you reach them before your competitors do?
Question #2: If you could send a single, memorable gift to your top 20 dream clients tomorrow, what would it be?
Would it pass the USI test of being Uniquely Striking and leaving the right Impression? Or would it be just another branded item that ends up in a drawer?
Question #3: Where does your agency fall in the continuum between "market generalist" and "vertical specialist"?
What would your business look like if you focused exclusively on your most profitable vertical for the next 12 months?
Have a great weekend!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the "Zone of Indifference," and why does it matter?
It's the group of prospects who aren't actively looking for an agency but aren't fully satisfied with their current solution either. Reaching them before competitors do means catching interest before it turns into an active search.
What is the USI test for gifts?
Whether a gift is Uniquely Striking and leaves the right Impression. It's a way to check if a gift will actually stand out or just become another branded item that ends up in a drawer.
How do I know where my agency falls between generalist and specialist?
Think about the continuum honestly rather than assuming. Somewhere between "market generalist" and "vertical specialist" describes where most agencies actually sit, even if they think of themselves as more specialized than they are.
What would focusing exclusively on one vertical for 12 months actually reveal?
It would show what the business could look like without the distraction of serving multiple markets at once. Imagining that focus is a way to test whether specialization is worth pursuing more seriously.
What's the common thread across all three questions?
Reflection over action, for now. Each question is meant to surface where an agency's targeting, outreach, and specialization actually stand, before jumping into new tactics.
